Review #5 – Nat Sherman 85th Anniversary

I like a good aged cigar. Found this one in a local shop and couldn’t resist after looking it up online. This cigar was released in 2015 to commemorate the 85th anniversary of Nat Sherman, before it was sold to Altria in 2017 and closed in 2020. Archived reports state it was rolled by the Quesada factory using Dominican wrapper and Nicaraguan filler and binder. Paired tonight with a double fisted 10 year Four Roses Single Barrel and a 10 year tawny port, both chosen to complement the 10 year old cigar. (The port seems to be a better match, but I love tawny port so that is certainly a personal preference.)

Starts out spicy, but with a root beer flavor underneath. Later the cigar has a bit of lemony citrus, with a black pepper on the retrohale. Throughout, it exhibits a richness that typifies exactly what I love about well aged cigars. Full body, and medium full strength. Lush, creamy smoke that makes for great smoke rings. Construction is spot on, as the burn line is rock solid and the ash holds on for nearly 2 inches each time before I knock it off. The final third is more peppery and leathery, with definitely more strength but still enjoyable.

Needless to say, I enjoyed the [expletive] out of this cigar. My only regret was that I only bought one, but I went back to purchase nearly all of the available stock. (I left a couple for the clerk to enjoy).
