Review #7 – Partagas Classic

Cameroon wrapper, San Andres binder over Dominican fillers. 7 1/2″ x 49 Churchill. Rough, rustic looking stick that seems to have a bit of a bend in the middle.

Classic Cameroon in nearly every sense of the word. Spiciness with cedar and earthy flavors, along with a bit of sweetness that I attribute to the San Andres binder. There is a little black pepper on the retrohale that never gets overpowering. Medium strength and relatively smooth.

The middle of the cigar sees more cedar emerging while the spice level diminishes a bit. While not perfect, the burn line is solid throughout.

The last third becomes mostly earthy and natural tobacco. Still mostly pleasant until the very end, when it gets a bit gritty and leathery. The last bit even leaves a bad taste in my mouth, which is the only negative I have overall. Smoke time was over 90 minutes.

Given the general disdain for General Cigar cigars compared to their Cuban counterparts, I am somewhat pleasantly surprised. While it certainly isn’t my favorite Cameroon, it is a quality cigar especially since they can be found under $10 per stick. If you like Cameroon wrappers, this one will be worth trying.
